Born in 1946 I began fishing at the age of ten , and have fly fished from the age of fifteen. I began tying my own flies at sixteen because I lost so many expensive shop bought ones. I fished for Coarse fish in my early angling days, only fly fishing to fill in the close season . Fly fishing took over in the 1970s and is now my first love, although I do still enjoy going Coarse fishing after the Roach and more recently Barbel.
I now concentrate most of my fly- fishing efforts on Salmon, Sea-trout , and Grayling , preferring to fish for “wild fish” rather than fish which are artificially stocked , although I do enjoy fishing the upper reaches of my local River Dane for Brown Trout , of which a percentage of the Brown Trout are stocked . My fly tying reflects my interest in Salmon and Sea –Trout and I have devised an anti- tangle rig for Secret Weapon type flies and have also created several new patterns for Salmon and Sea-Trout , notably the Jungle cock elver, the recently published Nitro shrimp, and the Blue Alexandra.
I am a regular contributor to UK fishing magazines, and have demonstrated at many Game fairs throughout the country. I am looking forward to tying in the company of so many world famous Fly-dressers at what promises to be the best ever Irish fly fair.
