Jan Mertens - Belgium

I am Jan Mertens ,I live in Herentals, Belgium .I am 59 years old , married and have two sons. I began fishing when I was six years old but came to flyfishing in 1979 at the age of 30. At the same time I started flytying, I tie all kinds of flies except traditional salmon flies ,mostly for my own needs.

I tied on fairs in Paris, Kolding, Dortmund, Salzburg, Charleroi,the flyhappening in Belgium and the Dutch fly fair. I love flyfishing for all kinds of fish in fresh and salt water. Up till now I cought 25 different species.

For the last 15 years, I went every year to Ireland fishing the famous loughs and rivers. This year we go for the 10 time to Waterville fishing  famous lough Currane for seatrout. I fished also a lot on the Danish coast for seatrout, in Austria, France, Germany and Belgium for trout and grayling and Holland for al kinds of coarsefish. My homeriver is a little stream in Germany near the Belgium border.
